On March 31, 2023, a catastrophic EF-3 tornado ripped through the heart of Arkansas’ capital city of Little Rock. The destruction was devastating. Hundreds lost their homes and businesses and sadly, three people lost their lives. The Channel 7 Weather team warned viewers days in advance, tracking the storm as it approached, sending instant alerts via the KATV app and showing the tornado live on air as it touched down.

The day after the tornado, KATV quickly launched the “Spirit of Arkansas Disaster Relief Drive,” a partnership with the American Red Cross to raise money to support our neighbors as they recover and rebuild. Through PSA announcements and regular in-newscast mentions, KATV asked viewers to donate to the campaign, raising $48,731 to help tornado victims.
