The 22nd Celebration of Service to America Awards Call For Entries is Open

Categories

Every category has two winners: one radio and one television. Please review the category criteria to understand where your application belongs.

Broadcast Ownership Group
Large/Major Market (TV DMAs 1-50, Radio Markets 1-50)
Medium Market (TV DMAs 51-100, Radio Markets 51-150)
Small Market (TV DMAs 101-210, Radio Markets 151-300)




Deadlines

Entries Open: Monday, January 11, 2021
Entries Deadline: Friday, March 5, 2021
Finalists Announced: Early April
Winners Announce: Summer Premiere (air date to be announced)

Fees

The Celebration of Service to America Awards application fee is $150 for every entry. A station or ownership group can enter multiple entries for different campaigns.




Requirements and Eligibility

  • Your entry’s campaign, project or program must have taken place between January 1, 2020 – December 31, 2020.
  • Every entry will need a public URL to your video (television) or audio (radio) entry.
  • Campaign video or audio submission must be a maximum of five minutes. Judges will stop reviewing at five minutes.
  • Television stations are required to provide a video submission. Radio stations are encouraged to provide a video submission.
  • Submit the $150 application fee.

How to apply


To apply for the Celebration of Service to America Awards, you will need to log in to or create a profile at my.nab.org.

Once inside the portal, follow these 10 easy steps:

  1. Click on Awards in the left-hand navigation within your profile.

  2. Find the Celebration of Service to America Callout and click Apply.

  3. Confirm your contact information, including primary affiliation, is correct.

    Please note, your primary affiliation is your company/organization (broadcast group, station, university, etc.). You can search for your primary affiliation by typing the name in the field. If you cannot find your company/organization, please call 202-775-2555 or email login@nab.org.

  4. Enter your category information. For more information on category selection, visit the category criteria.

  5. Provide your entry title and description of your campaign, project or program.

    Please describe the campaign, project or program and the impact it had on your local community. Your response may also include details on any of the following:
    • Third-party Partnerships: Please include the nature of the partnership, length/history of existence and accomplishments, partnership logistics, etc.
    • Investigative Journalism: Please include the reporting results, total off-air hours dedicated to the investigation, changes made in the community, etc.
    • Innovative Use of New Technology: Please include a description of the new technology or innovation, how it facilitated the completion of your project, impacted your community, etc.

  6. Provide quantifiable results, if applicable to your campaign, project or program.

  7. Provide a public URL to your five-minute video or audio file. Please note: video entries are required for television entries and strongly encouraged for radio entries.

  8. Provide additional video or audio files, if applicable.

  9. Upload any additional materials.

  10. Review and submit application. Please note: your application is considered complete once the $150 entry fee is submitted.

Judging

All qualified applications must meet the application and eligibility requirements. Judges will judge on the following criteria:

  • The overall impact of your community service efforts described in the entry.
  • Whether the entry lives up to the stated purposes and goals you described.
  • How well the entry communicates its message and purpose.
  • How well the station used available resources to better the community.


Please note: If you and your station are selected as a 2021 Celebration of Service to America Finalist, we will require signatures on the two release forms, materials release and depiction release.
